Seeding Self Expression with Taylor Brooke Lundquist
Most skiers might drive by a vacant parking lot without giving it a second thought, but all it takes is a quick glance for Taylor Brooke Lundquist to see how a simple snow ramp can transform a cold, steel light pole into the perfect platform for a stall. For the 32-year-old skier—known as TBL in the street skiing world—lacing a transition to concrete from two stories up is as much about style as it is about technical prowess.
Since her late 20s, Lundquist—whose quiet, humble demeanor often lets her skiing do the talking—has become one of the best street skiers in the game. She’s the one and only woman to have been invited to compete in X Games Real Ski, earned back-to-back Skier of the Year awards from Newschoolers, and hosted her own women’s street style event with an historical cash purse. Her route to get here, however, was arduous. Through a volatile youth, wilderness therapy, boarding school and dashed Olympic dreams, her path felt nebulous at times. But now, Lundquist is reshaping the street skiing landscape for the next generation.
