Still Sliding

With a chunk of ice clinging to the corner of my mustache, I pulled up my snow-crusted goggles and stepped inside the drafty shack that served as our guide meeting room. I was tired and cold after a long day of showing a group of bachelors their “Best Day Ever” (as the koozies and stickers professed). My boss, who saw how drained I was, sat back in his chair and said, “Meet me at my house tonight, I have something that will brighten your day.” Little did I know that what he was referring to would alter the course of the next decade of my life, as well as the early stages of development for a pair of yet-to-be-born twin boys.
In 2006, when I punched the clock as a ski guide at Silverton Mountain, CO, I occasionally had access to gear before it was officially released. When I pulled up to my boss’ place that evening, he procured a pair of freaky looking red and white skis out of a cardboard box in the back of his beat-up F-150. At the time (and even today) the skis seemed comical. The enormous tips, tapered pintails and banana-like reverse camber profile looked like somebody’s unfiltered powder day fantasy brought to life, which it was—one of the first-ever pairs of K2 Pontoons. Thanks Shane.
