Worth the Wait
In March 2026, Nat Segal stood on top of Ruthie’s Face, a hero line just above McGillivray Pass Lodge, BC. A heat wave was coming, so the crew only had a short window to drop in. They’d be back to the lodge by 10 a.m., likely done for the day. Segal had visited the 15-person lodge, run by Whitecap Alpine, for eight years, but she had yet to lay her own tracks down one of the lodge’s most iconic faces.
Accessibility isn’t an issue for Ruthie’s. The line is just an hour’s skin from the hut and no more than 1,000 vertical feet. But cornices guard the entrance to the steep northeast entrance, and it takes the right variables for the run to come into condition.
