“A Hundred Words for Wind” with Cody Cirillo and Matt Tufts

Words: Lily Krass Ritter

Biking 1,000 miles around Iceland’s Ring Road with skis had been a dream of Cody Cirillo’s for years. In May 2024, he recruited a friend he knew would be down for a questionable sufferfest: photographer Matt Tufts. Lured by the promise of roadside couloirs and a deep spring snowpack, the two set out on a bikepacking freeride ski mission—an unlikely combination, especially since neither Cody or Matt considered themselves cyclists.

“A Hundred Words for Wind,” follows Cody and Matt’s journey through harrowing headwinds, nasty spring storms and epic freeride skiing, beginning in Reykjavik and cycling for 35 days, over 1,000 miles.

Matt painted a vivid story about the trip as the cover story for TSKJ 18.3 last year, and we’ve been looking forward to the release of this film ever since.
